November is National Novel Writing Month in the United States. It is called NaNoWriMo for short because saying National Novel Writing Month takes too long to say. Some people even call it NaNo. NaNoWriMo is a challenge. The challenge is to write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days. That means the writer has to write 1,667 words every day. People who take this challenge are called WriMos. This year I was a WriMo. This was the fourth year I was a WriMo. The first year, I started to write the novel, but didn't write much. The second year, I wrote the whole 50,000 words. When you write 50,000 words in 30 days, you "win." You don't actually win much. You win a certificate you can print out. You win a badge you can put on your website. But it gives you a sense of accomplishment, and it gives you a complete novel. I won my second year and I won my third year. This year, my fourth year, I didn't think I was going to be able to win. I couldn't write much most of the month. I was sick. But the last week of the month, I wrote a lot of words. I wrote a total of 50,050 words during November. I won! Now I have a new NaNo novel to edit. Some day I hope it will be published.
